Oriental Bay Owl




Oriental Bay Owl (Phodilus badius) is small to medium sized with distinctive angular facial disk and dark vertical facial markings. It is shorter and with more rounded wings than the Barn Owl.

Variety of calls includes whistles, hoots, wails and screams. They nest in hollow tree or stump. The owl breeds at different times depending on area. They normally feed on small mammals, small birds, reptiles, frogs and insects. The Oriental Bay Owl is commonly seen in northern part of India.
