A native of Asia, Olatkambal (Latin name, Abroma augusta) is an erect evergreen tree (very little spread), with dark maroon flowers. Soft bristly hairs cover the leaves and stems, and are very irritating to touch.
Olatkambal grows well in rich well-drained soil mix in the presence of full sun or partial shade. The root and bark are very useful in Indian system of medicines. Root and bark are reported to be an emmenagogue and uterine tonic. A jute-like fiber is also isolated from the bark. The herb is propagated by means of seedling.
