O V Vijayan

Cartoonist, novelist and short-story writer



Oottupulackal Velukkutty Vijayan, popularly known as O V Vijayan, was born at Palakkad on July 2, 1930. His formal schooling started at the age of twelve. He joined Raja’s High School at Kottakkal in Malabar, Kerala, straightaway to standard six, and graduated in arts from the Government Victoria College, Palakkad. Afterwards he took Master's degree in English literature from Presidency College, Chennai. Vijayan’s career begins with a short stint at teaching, initially at Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode. He has to his credit five novels besides several short stories, articles, and a book on his own masterpiece, Khasakinte Ithihasam. It is titled Itihasathinte Itihasam. Khasakinte Ithihasam, Dharmapuranam, and Gurusagaram are a few among his novels. Vijayante Kathakal, Oru Neenda Rathriyude Ormakkayi, Asanthi, Bala Bhodini, and Kadal Theerathu are his short story collections.
