Noubat is a single-headed drum used in temples, especially those dedicated to the Mother Goddess. It is also known by the name ‘Pagh.’ The instrument is made from a large gourd covered with metal strips for its reinforcement. Leather is attached to the head, which is held tightly by leather strips. This drum is beaten by short and strong sticks.
Noubat is either placed on the ground or hung from the player’s neck at his waist level during the performance. Since it is played at temples it is considered holy. The player is gifted with flower garlands or red scarves with golden laced edges by the devotees visiting the temple. These garlands or scarves are used for decorating the Noubat.
