Northern Lapwing




Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) is a medium sized bird (30 cm) of the plover family with rounded wings and a crest. Its upperparts are dark, glossed with greenish and the underparts are white. The female has a white throat. Its rounded wings with white tips and wing linings are obvious during flight.

The bird inhabits in open fields, pastures and grassy banks of ponds and lakes. It feeds on insects, worms and snails.

Northern Lapwing can be seen in the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Rajasthan.
