Nisargadatta Maharaj (1897-1981)is believed to be the greatest teacher of Advaita after Ramana Maharshi. Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj was born in
Mumbai to a servant. His earlier name was Maruti. At the age of 34 he was introduced to his guru, Sri Siddharameshwar Maharaj. Within just 3 years, Maruti realised himself and became Nisargadutta Maharaj. After spending time in the
Himalayas, he settled back in Mumbai. Nisargadatta Maharaj became internationally famous with the book ‘I Am That’, published in English in 1973. Many westerners came to listen to him when he gave satsangs. He died in 1981.
