Nawab Viqar-ul-Mulk

Nawab Viqar-ul-Mulk, named Mushtaq Hussain by his parents, was born on March 24, 1841. He completed a thorough basic education in Arabic, Hadith (a sound or reliable tradition of the Prophet} and Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence). In 1861, he joined the government services of the United Provinces with Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great Muslim reformer and statesman of the 19th century. He started his career as a humble worker of the Aligarh movement, a primarily educational venture.

Viqar-ul-Mulk was invited to serve the Hyderabad state in 1875, under the British. As a result of his 17 years meritorious services, Mulk was promoted to the rank of a Nawab with his full title Nawab Mushtaq Hussain Viqar-ul-Mulk. He played an important role in the establishment of the Muslim League. His aim was to organize the Muslims politically and to safeguard their political rights. He was paralyzed by a stroke in 1915 and died in January 27, 1917.
