National Gallery of Modern Art

National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is an organization under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, situated at Mumbai, in Maharashtra. The gallery was opened to the public in 1996. It is located near Regal Cinema in Colaba.

National Gallery of Modern Art showcases modern contemporary art from India and other countries. It conducts specially curated exhibitions and retrospectives of leading and eminent artists of the country. NGMA, under the Cultural Exchange Programme between countries, organizes exhibitions throughout the year.

The edifice of the National Gallery of Modern Art was formerly the auditorium known as the Sir Cowasji Jehangir Public Hall or Sir C J Hall, as it was popularly known. The interior of the gallery with its elegant horse-shoe shaped balconies exhibits a different look as the hollow interior exhibits a central stairway with semicircular galleries at different levels.

Prince Of Wales Museum Of Western India, situated nearby, is worth visiting.
