Narsing (also called as Narsingha, Nalsring or Ransingha) is an ancient instrument used while making an important announcement. It is trumpet-like instrument used in the olden days to increase the spirits of soldiers in a battlefield. It was also used for welcoming any royal guests. In the modern days, its use is restricted to religious places and ceremonies.
The Narsing is curved in shape, having a length of 120 to 180 cm. It is made from brass, copper or occasionally from ivory or horn. The end opposite to the mouthpiece arches in the outward direction and is broader than the mouthpiece. The ends are connected together by a cord or rod for the stability. This instrument is embellished with metal or ivory inlay-work. There are slight variations in its shape, depending on the region where it is made.
