Naran Nag is a pilgrimage place in Kashmir located near
Wangath in
Srinagar District. It is at the foot of the steep Butsher Mountain. Formerly known as Sodaratirth, it is the location of temples commonly referred to as the Wangath temples. The place derived its name from the existence of a large spring called Sodaranag. The 12th century Bhutesvara temple erected by King Jayasimha is the prime attraction. The two groups of temples situated here dates back to the medieval period.
Jyeshthesa temple nearby is also worth visiting. Ruins of a Buddhist temple of the 4th-5th century are also found here.
By road, Naran Nag can be accessed from Srinagar – the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is about 16 km from Kangan. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station and the airport is Srinagar Airport.
