Mool Sutras

Mool Sutras are a collection of texts containing the basic principles to be followed by the Jain monks and nuns. These scriptures are referred by the newly conferred ascetics. There is however a disagreement in the number of texts comprising the Mool Sutras. The Shwetambara Murtipujak (idol worshippers) believes in four texts, while the Sthanakvasi and the Shwetambara Terapanthi sects accept in the existence of only three texts.

Avashyaka Sutra, Dasha Vaikalika Sutra, Uttaradhyayana Sutra and Ogha Niryukti Sutra are texts coming under the Mool Sutra collection.
