Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus) is a slim, medium-sized, long-winged bird of prey. It is about 43 to 50 cm in length and has a long tail and pointed wings. The males are pale grey with a black wing bar and wing tips, and a gray rump. The female is dark brown.
The bird prefers open areas such as meadows, grassland, cereal fields, heath, moor, scrubland, marshes and bogs. The nests are built on the ground in tall vegetation and are made from grass and twigs. It feeds on small birds, voles, shrews, rabbits, lizards and insects.
