Mohan Singh Mahir (1905-78) was the first to introduce modernism in
Punjabi poetry. Nankayan is his most popular work, in which he had presented the biography of Guru Nanak. Sawe Pattar and Kusumbra are his other famed works. Mahir is also credited with the translation of Edwin Arnold's 'The Light of Asia' into Punjabi, which portrays the life of the
Buddha.
