Mir Jumla's Tomb is located on a hillock at Mankachar, West Garo Hills District
, in Meghalaya
. It is built in the memory of Mir Jumla - the governor of Bengal during the rule of Aurangzeb
As an act of attrition against a local ruler, Jumla conquered some parts of Assam in 1662. But his initial success was foiled by the flood of Brahmaputra River and malaria-infested climate. This forced Jumla and his army to retreat in 1663.
As a result, Jumla fell ill and died at Mankachar, before he could reach Bengal.
