Meos is one of the main ethnic groups inhabiting in a territorial region which falls between the important urban centers of
Delhi,
Agra and
Jaipur. Meos are mainly concentrated in Mewat which consist of the hill country tract of
Gurgaon,
Alwar and
Bharatpur.
Meos claim to have a Rajput origin and are descendants of an ancestor who was converted to Islam in the time of Kutub-ud-din; hence a unique blend of Islam and Hinduism. Hindu customs and practices are observed on the occasion of marriage, birth and other ceremonies. Meos celebrate Diwali, Holi as well as Ids.
