Mangalyam




It is customery to tie a sacred thread with a pendant round the neck of the bride by the groom in the Hindu marriage system. The thread is dipped into turmeric paste 108 times before it is tied on the bride's neck. Nadaswaram is played on this occassion. This practice is known as mangalyam. Hindu women wear this as a token of their wedlock untill their husband die.
