Mangaluru




Mangaluru was the earlier name of Mangalore in Karnataka. The city got its name from the Mangaladevi Temple. Mangaluru is a Sanskrit term literally meaning ‘auspicious place’, where 'Mangala' meaning auspicious and 'Uuru' meaning place. The Portuguese corrupted the name to its present form.
