Mangal or Mars is one of the nine grahas or planets revered in
Vedic Astrology. Angaraka and Kuja are other two names of Mangal. It is the malefic planet that controls two sidereal signs (rashies) of Aries (Mesha) and Scorpio (Virshika).
Mangal is best placed in Capricorn (Makara Rashi) where it is called exalted and it is least auspicious in the opposite sign of Cancer (Karkataka).
Depicting as a god of martial character, the Mars has a red body representing the natural color of the astronomical body in the sky. It is believed that a prayer to this planet frees one from debts, poverty, and also illness affecting the skin. It also helps to restore the eyesight once lost.
