Malabar Banded Swallowtail

Malabar Banded Swallowtail (Papilio demolion liomedon), a favorite butterfly variety for collectors, is common in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu (Nilgiri).

Upper-side, head, and abdomen are brownish-black in color. Thorax is brownish-black with white spots on the dorsal region of prothorax. The wingspan is about 9 to 10 cm. A series of yellow bands along the upper forewing and the hind wing make the insect nice-looking.
