Makhan David Synagogue




Built in 1884, Makhan David Synagogue in Kolkata stands on the Canning Street in the Old Market, along with the Portuguese and Armenian Churches. It was constructed by Elias David Joseph Ezra in memory of his father. Created in the Sephardic style, it is 140 ft long and 82 ft wide. The synagogue consists of a great hall with seating in alcoves.

Makhan David Synagogue is the largest synagogue in the East and is magnificent in architecture and design. Each week prayer services are held. There are daily minyan and evening worship.
