Makara Jyothi is a light of amazing magnificence, which appears in the north-eastern side of
Sabarimala Temple, at Kantha Malai peaks on
Makar Sankranti Day. It is believed that
Lord Ayyappa was born on the auspicious day of
Makar Sankranti.
Devotees believe that Lord Ayyappa appears in the form of the light to bless them on that day. A special puja is organized by devotees all over the world to commemorate the occasion which is known as the annual Makaravilakku Puja.
