Mahanady River

Mahanady River originates near the Mahaldiram hills, located to the east of Kurseong. The river gushes through the gorges of the Himalayas and runs through a subterranean stratum of sand for a distance of about 7 km before heaving into sight again. It flows through Siliguri where its both banks are connected by an iron bridge (to the north of the town). This silver band is more attractive during the rainy season when the banks overflow during its course from the hills. It finally merges with the Ganges at Godagri. It has a course of 354 km. Its tributaries on the western bank are the Kankai, the Mechi, the Buridangi, the Chenga and the Balasan.
