There is a story behind the construction of Mahal Gulara – it is that when Shah Jahan visited Burhanpur, he fell in love with a beautiful dancer 'Gulara'. Shah Jahan was so impressed with her that he later married her. He constructed two beautiful palaces here surrounded by beautiful gardens and a water fall between them. The village was named after her name 'Mahal Gulara'.
