Madathil Vasudevan, popularly known as M .V. Devan, was born at Chokli,
Kannur on 15th January 1923. He started painting at the early age of 10. After completing basic education, he left for Madras to learn painting. M.V.Devan also explored other areas like sculpting, philosophy, oratory, art and culture. He established the Malayala Kalagramom, a learning center for literature, music, dance, painting, sculpture, vastukala, and other art forms.
He was the first secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi, of Tamil Nadu, which was started in 1954-55. First Malayatoor Fine Arts Award, Fellowship of Kerala Lalit Kala Academy, Fellowship of Chennai Lalit Kala Academy, Critics Award, M.K.K Nayar Award, and Vayalar Award are some among his achievements.
