Lum Sohpetbneng




Lum Sohpetbneng, popularly known as 'Naval of Heaven or Heavenly Peak', is located on the Shillong-Guwahati Road, at Umiam, about 16 km from Shillong - the state capital. It takes 6 km from Umiam to reach atop the peak. An ideal spot for trekking and camping, this 1,343 m high peak offers a bird's eye view of the surrounding forests.

According to Khasi mythology, Lum Sohpetbneng is an ancient golden staircase linking earth and heaven. This peak is held sacred by the Hynniewtrep tribe. A substantial number of devotees assemble here during the annual pilgrimage, during which several rituals and religious rites are performed.

The nearest airport and railway station are at Guwahati.
