Lesser Florican




Lesser Florican (Sypheotides indica) is amongst the smallest bustards in the world. It breeds in monsoon on the central plateau grasslands of the Indian subcontinent.

Male bird has black head, long neck and underparts. It has a white collar across the upper mantle. Female is similar to the Bengal Florican.

The bird prefers to live in tall grass patches. It feeds on grass, small shrubs and insects.

Lesser Florican can be seen in the Sailana Bird Sanctuary, Madhya Pradesh.
