Lesser Coucal




Lesser Coucal (Centropus bengalensis) is a medium-sized bird of about 38 cm. It has black plumage, with chestnut wings and back, red eyes, and black bill and feet. Its tail features are long and like that of pheasants.

The bird prefers to live in open grasslands, both dry and marshy. Its diet includes large insects, frogs, lizards and snakes.

Lesser Coucal can be seen in the Katarniaghat Sanctuary, Uttar Pradesh.
