Lemon Balm (Botanical name, Melissa officinalis) is a bushy perennial herb, distributed throughout the northern temperate regions. The herb bears rough-textured, saw-toothed leaves, and pale yellow or white flowers. On steam distillation, Melissa yields essential aromatic oil. The oil is used to calm allergies, colds, diarrhoea, hypertension, menstrual problems, migraine, headaches, and nausea. In addition to medicinal values, lemon balm shows aromatic and culinary properties. This herb is added to poultry, fish, salads soups, liqueurs, and wines. It is also cultivated in bee gardens.
