Ledo



Ledo is a picturesque town, situated at a distance of 6 km from Margarita, in Tinsukia District of Assam. This place is renowned for the 430 km, Indo-Burma Highway constructed by the British General Mr Vinegar Joe Stillwell. This road was constructed in 1944 during World War - II.

Named after Mr Vinegar Joe Stillwell as Stillwell Highway, this road connects Ledo with Myitkyinya (in Myanmar). The most important coal mines of Assam are situated in this place.

The town has a railway station, the Ledo Railway Station. Dibrugarh Airport is the nearest airport.
