Kheda, also known as Kaira, is the district headquarters of
Kheda District. An important trading town in
Gujarat, Kheda is 35 km from
Ahmedabad.
The town is an ancient settlement, dated from 5th century. A military garrison developed by the British in 1803 is situated here. Kheda has a Jain Temple with excellent carving, a church built in 1822 and an early 19th century Town hall. At present, Kheda is one of the major centers of India's dairy industry, with the Amul Milk Diary, situated in Anand nearby.
The
National Highway 8 passes through Kheda.
