Kharu

Kharu is a wooden gate used by the Angami tribe of Nagaland. Each village of this particular tribe is divided into units called ‘khel’. The wooden gate served as a barricade to these units in the past.

Kharu was constructed using a single piece of wood. The carvings on this gate indicated the population of people and cattle belonging to the ‘khel.’
