Kharjura is a tall tree and the fruit is reddish or yellowish brown. It is an oblong berry. The leaves are used for thatching and making baskets, fans, mats and ropes. The petioles are used for making durable walking sticks and in fishing and the making of boats.
The fruit contains vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid, vitamin C, tannin, pectin, sorbitol, galacturonic acid, invertase and peroxidase. Kharjura is considered demulcent, expectorant and laxative. It is used in respiratory diseases and fever.
