Kamba Ramayana

Kamba Ramayana, popularly known as Ramavataram, is a sacred text based on the great epic Ramayana. Kamban, the great poet of ancient India, penned this epic in the 9th century. This magnificent Tamil text is not a mere translation of the original epic by Maharshi Valmiki.

Kamba Ramayana contains over 10,000 verses of four lines each. It retells the story of Lord Ram in a new way with the use of simile, rhyme and astonishing variety of poetry. In Kamba Ramayana, the poet treats Lord Ram as the incarnation of Lord Tirumal (Lord Vishnu).
