Kallu (Toddy) is a traditional, social and local alcoholic drink of India. It has different names in each state. In
Kerala and
Tamil Nadu it is known as Kallu and it gives the same effect as drinking any other alcoholic beverage.
There are two different kinds of Kallu - 'Pannam Kallu' and 'Thengin Kallu.' 'Pannam Kallu' is extracted from the palm tree while 'Thengin Kallu' from the coconut tree.
Kallu is best served immediately after collecting from the tree.
