K Satchidanandan

A Poet and Critic



Koyamparambath Satchidanandan is a poet, critic and translator, born in the year 1946 at Pullut in Thrissur District in Kerala. One of the best-known literary personalities in India, he is the Secretary, Central Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. Earlier, he was an English professor at Christ College, Irinjalakuda. Satchidanandan has published more than 20 volumes of poetry including 'Anchu Sooryan' (Five Suns); 'Peedanakalam' (The Times of Torment); 'Venal Mazha '(The Summer Rains) and 'Socrattesum Kozhiyum' (Socrates and the Cock). He has participated in numerous poetry festivals and literary meets in different parts of the world.

Satchidanandan's critical thinking is based on complex theory, but he presents it in a comprehensible manner and thus has introduced Malayalis to all contemporary trends. At present he is the editor of 'Indian Literature' published by the Central Sahitya Akademi.

The Sahitya Akademi Award and Oman Cultural Center Award are among his achievements. The Library of Congress has thirty-three books by Satchidanandan, in both Malayalam and English.
