K R Gauri started her public life through trade union and peasant movements, and was elected to the Travancore Council of Legislative Assembly in the years 1952 and 1954 with a vast majority. In 1957 she became the Revenue Minister in the first EMS ministry. She has functioned as a minister, in five different ministries under three Chief Ministers.
