Juma Mosque




Juma Mosque, situated at Kavaratti, is known for its magnificence. This large historic monument contains a large tank also. The head stones in the graveyard adjoining this mosque contain fine inscriptions from the Quran. The fine artistry of these carvings gives a glimpse of the artistic talent of the local craftsmen.

This mosque is of great historic significance to the local population. It is believed to have been built under the supervision of Saint Ubaidullah, a missionary who arrived at Lakshadweep in the year 663 to spread Islam religion. Similar ancient mosques, attributed to the saint, are located at Amini, Kalpeni, Agatti islands.

Kavaratti is situated at a distance of 404 km from Kochi.
