Jujube is a fruit-bearing tree, which grows in the northern, eastern and western parts of India, up to an altitude of 1,000 m. The fruit is sweet, oval and has pleasant flavor and dessert quality.
The tree is adaptable to almost every soil textures and can be grown in alkaline soils. The tree can withstand extreme dry and waterlogging conditions, but frost is harmful to it.
Its improved varieties are Umran, Sanaur-2 and Kaithli. It is also known as Ber and Bor.
