Java Sparrow  




Java Sparrow (Padda oryzivora) is a small grayish bird native to tropical Asia and often kept as a cage bird. It is also called as ricebird and paddy bird. The bird is grows up to 14 cm in size.

Males and females are nearly identical in appearance. The upper parts of the male are glaucous gray, the head and tail black, the underparts delicate rose, and the cheeks white. The bill is large and red. A white variety is also kept as a cage bird. Females are smaller with narrower crown, more tapered and duller bill. Diet consists of canary and millet seeds, millet sprays, green food and some soft food.
