Jarigaan

Jarigaan is a popular folk music tradition prevalent in the rural areas of the Indian subcontinent, especially in West Bengal. This folk music is a Muslim folk equivalent of the Kabial tradition, written and composed by Muslim folk poets. Jarigaan is taken from events, materials and tidbits of the life and times of Prophet Mohammed and his disciples. Jarigaan is also a song of boatmen and fishermen.
