Janki Navami

Janki Navami, also known as Sita Navami or Sita Ashtami, falls on the ninth day of the lunar month of Baisakh (February-March). It is believed that Sita - the divine partner of Lord Ram - took birth on this day.

On this day, women take bath in the morning, make the idol of Sita with the ploughed soil and offer various types of food made of lava (perched paddy), gur and milk. The Ramacharitamanas, the most popular version of the Ramayana, is read on this occasion.
