A prolific
Urdu novelist, Ismat Chughtai worked constantly for the rights of the women through her literary works. Born at
Budaun in
Uttar Pradesh in 1915, she belonged to a conservative family. Among her prominent short story collections are 'Kaliyan', 'Choten', 'Chooi Mooi'. 'Teri-Lakeer', 'Ziddi' and 'Bahroop Nagar' are some of her famous novels. She died in 1991.
