Indranilaratha




Indranilaratha is the vahana (mount) of Lord Muruga and is always depicted with along with it. Indranilaratha is actually a peacock and is also called as Sikhi and Mayara in the local languages. Lord Muruga, when mounted on the peacock, is referred by the name Sikhivahana, the one riding the peacock. In this particular form, the lord is shown with one face, three eyes and four hands.

In Hindu mythology, Lord Muruga is the symbol of youth, beauty and heroism. His peacock, Indranilaratha, complements these aspects. It symbolizes the lord’s radiating beauty.
