Indian quills (Urginea indica), a native of India, are a small bulbous herb that grows widely in north and south India. The bulbs (about the size of an onion) are rounded, conical or pear-shaped. It is also known as Jangli pyaj or Vanpalandu.
The seeds possess expectorant, cardiac, stimulant, diuretic, anti cancer, bronchitis and deobstruent properties. Indian quills are used to cure asthma, rheumatism and dropsy. In large doses, it gives rise to narcotic stage.
