Indian Long Pepper

Indian Long Pepper (Piper longum) grows in hotter parts of India, from the Central Himalayas to Assam. It is a slender, aromatic, climber with perennial woody roots, creeping and jointed stems, and fleshy fruits embedded in the spikes.

The fruits contain piperine and piplartine, and are used for diseases of the respiratory tract. Long Pepper is also known to enhance the bio-availability of food and drugs and is a carminative.

It is also known as Pipal and Pipar.
