Ida is a ‘nadi’ (network of subtle channels) in the human body. Shiva Samhita considers Ida, Pingala and Sushumna as the important nadis, out of fourteen principal nadis. Energy passes to different parts of the body through these nadis which are a counterpart of the blood or nervous system. Ida and Pingala are placed on the right and left side of the space outside the Merudanda or spinal column. Ida starts from the Muladhara, right testicle and ends at the left nostril. It is cooling where Pingala is heating. Ida is also called Chandra (Moon) Nadi and related with river
Ganges. Lunar energy is emitted during its course of action. Colour of Ida is Pale (Sakti Rupa), and both Ida and Pingala represent Kala (time, death).
