Hygrophila is a robust, erect, annual herb that grows throughout India. Kokilaksha, Ikshura, Ikshuraka, and Chulli are its local names. The seeds have large amount of tenacious mucilage and potassium salts. The roots, leaves and seeds are used in diuretics, jaundice, dropsy, rheumatism, anasarca, and diseases of the urinogenital tract.
