Hog Badger




Hog Badger’s (Arctonyx collaris) head is long and conical in shape. Its snout resembles a pig's nose, and is long, mobile, and lacks hair. The claws are powerful, fairly straight and white. The long, stocky body is set on short, thick legs.

The animal has a medium-length hair, which is a grayish to yellowish brown on the body with stark black and white markings on the face. Black hairs are found on the feet, legs and underside of the body.

The animal feeds on worms, invertebrates, roots and fruit. It hides in a den at daytime and is active during night.

The animal can be seen in the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, West Bengal.
