Hing is also known as Asafoetida and is common in the tropics. It can be used as whole blocks or as powder. Hing blocks are crushed and mixed in pickles.
A pinch of Hing mixed with a spoon of curd is smeared on the navel for gas and indigestion. It is added to curry powders, masala mixes, side dishes, or vegetables, pickles, sambhar powder and rasam.
