Himanchal is the central zone of the
Himalayas, situated between the Himadri and
Shivaliks mountain ranges. It is a massive mountainous tract, separated in the south by the Main Boundary Fault (MBF). The mountain range has an average width of 75 km while the altitude varies from 1,500 and 2,700 meters. The terrain is mainly composed of metamorphic rocks of varying age.
